From fuel pilots to viral calculators, Lynn Loo – Accelerating to Net Zero, Episode 1

Accelleron - From fuel pilots to viral calculators, Lynn Loo
Professor Lynn Loo is CEO of the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation, a non-profit using pilots and practical tools to close the net zero gap. Watch episode 1 of the Accelerating to Net Zero series, as we speak with Professor Loo about ammonia bunkering, IMO carbon pricing, and aggregating cross-sectoral demand for carbon-neutral fuels.

Accelerating to Net Zero, a strategic dialogue series

For more than a decade, shipping companies and technology providers have delivered innovation faster than at any time in the sector’s history to increase efficiency, cut emissions, and support the conversion to carbon-neutral fuels. Yet emissions continue to rise, even as the IMO’s 2030 target draws closer.

What will it take for shipping to begin a true and lasting decline in emissions? What will it take to align with the 1.5° pathway and meet the IMO’s 2050 net zero goal? Why is shipping, like so many sectors, still off course?

In Accelerating to Net Zero, we ask hard questions in search of clear answers. Questions like: The ships are ready, so where is the fuel? Can collaboration outpace competition for clean molecules? What will it take to unlock carbon-neutral fuel supply at scale? What needs to change to build the infrastructure, partnerships, and market signals that can accelerate progress?

Each episode features a direct conversation with a global leader in maritime, energy, finance, policy, or supply chains. These individuals are setting the pace and applying deep expertise to tackle the hard questions and close the gap between net zero ambition and implementation.

Episode 1: Professor Lynn Loo, CEO, GCMD

Professor Lynn Loo is CEO of the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), an independent non-profit initiative established in Singapore in 2021 with support from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. Under her leadership, GCMD has launched pioneering ammonia bunkering trials and a carbon capture lifecycle assessment. One of GCMD’s recent contributions, an online calculator for the IMO’s new carbon pricing framework, got 10,000 hits in its first 24 hours.

Watch episode 1 of the Accelerating to Net Zero series as we speak with Professor Loo about fuel readiness, safety, regulation, and why ports are emerging as strategic hubs for cross-sectoral, carbon-neutral fuel demand.

What’s next?

Look out for the next video in the Accelerating to Net Zero series and the launch of our net zero report at London International Shipping Week (LISW).

Join the conversation in person on Tuesday, September 16, 14:00–16:00, at the LISW Global Hub: Breaking the Carbon-Neutral Fuel Deadlock to Accelerate to Net Zero.
